Coachella is coming May 1-2 and it sure seems like everyone and their mother is going to Indio, doesn't it? It certainly is a hot ticket, with Saturday tickets already sold out and Sunday going fast. We hear one young lady in Los Angeles was so anxious to party in the desert with her fave rave rock 'n' roll gods that she was offering certain -- ahem -- privileges in addition to face value for a pair of weekend passes. We wish her the best in her quest and have to admit we can't really blame her for her desperation: the prospect of rare appearances by the likes of Kraftwerk, The Cure, and, most thrillingly, the reunited Pixies, plus performances by the Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Stereolab, Air, Mogwai, The International Noise Conspiracy, and so many more, is enough to get any music lover's panties in a bunch. So if you're headed out to Palm Desert the weekend after next, this newsletter's playlist should get you that much more amped about the good times in store for you, and if you're not, well, here's a little taste of what you'll be missing. This week's playlist includes tracks from all the artists on Epitonic who will be there -- not necessarily the most recent tracks (as you've no doubt guessed by now, we're just a little bit short-staffed here; in fact, to be honest, we're using the royal we), but tracks nonetheless. There are also some damn fine artists playing Coachella who we don't feature (some of whom should be coming to our pages in the not-so-distant future) and from that group, we'd like to encourage you to check out Juana Molina, Dizzee Rascal, Atmosphere, 2manydjs, Danger Mouse, and Broken Social Scene. Enjoy yourselves!

New Tunes

We've got an outstanding group of new tracks up on the 'tonic, one of the best batches we've offered you in quite some time (OK, one of the only batches we've offered you in quite some time, but still). It includes multi-layered punk and synth-pop from Lansing-Dreiden, experimental composition from Tyondai Braxton, sensitive techno from Matthew Dear, pulsing electro-rock from Midwest Product, addicitve nouveau shoegazer from Dykehouse, lush orchestral pop from The Silent League, tightly coiled post-punk from our boys and girl Atombombpocketknife, darkly lyrical alt-country from The Handsome Family, somber folky pop from Megan Reilly, and sexy next-generation house from Luomo. Folks, it doesn't get much better than that.

Harrison Contest Ending Soon

If you haven't entered our George Harrison giveaway contest, we encourage you to do so, as it will be ending shortly. The contest, in association with Capitol Records, is a celebration of the release of a new box set compiling Harrison's Dark Horse years of the late '70s and '80s. One lucky fan will win a copy of the box set, and all you have to do is enter your email address for a chance to win.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
"Crowning of a Heart" by ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
This Austin, Texas foursome lives up to its lengthy, fearsome name with awe-inspiring sonic ambition. Trail of Dead abandons indie rock formulas in favor of building awesome, precarious towers of sound that are like nothing you've ever heard before.

Death Cab For Cutie
"Photobooth" by Death Cab For Cutie
Death Cab for Cutie's songs are like candy-coated truths. The heartbreak is veiled in sweet upbeat melodies so they go down smooth, but dark undercurrents stick in your subconscious and bubble up when you least expect them to. Find out why all the indie popsters are hailing the group as the best thing since seven-inch vinyl.

Kinky
"Anorexic Freaks" by Kinky
Here's some good-time electro-rock from Monterrey, Mexico. This five-piece band makes dance music with guitars (and even a touch of button accordion). With effortless enthusiasm, literary lyrics, and techno meets Norteño grooves, Kinky is irresistible.

LCD Soundsystem
"Beat Connection" by LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem's blend of get-down disco, jittery new wave, and raw funk creates the ultimate electroclash experience, which will get the most uptight stiff running for the dance floor to join in the revolution.

Moving Units
"I Am" by Moving Units
Upcoming Silverlake trio Moving Units capture a feeling of acute millennial paranoia with a frantic post-punk attack full of jagged edges and skeletal rhythms.

Mark Farina
"Phone Tap" by Mark Farina

Electric Six
"Danger! High Voltage" by Electric Six
Rock, and indeed, near universal excess underscore the crotch-first disco-punk of Detroit's Electric Six.

Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra
"Hypocrite" by Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra
Antibalas, Spanish for bulletproof (quite literally, anti-bullets), follow in the footsteps of the almighty Fela Anikulapo-Kuti with their modern Afro-beat sounds. The fourteen-plus Brooklyn-based jazz and funk ensemble is as political as it is funky.

Erase Errata
"Tongue Tied" by Erase Errata
San Francisco quartet Erase Errata channels the skeletal rhythms of British post-punk, the abrasive rush of no wave, and the feisty energy of riot grrl punk into intensely angular, incredibly vital music that will blow you away.

Air
"Planet Vega" by Air
Kitsch electronic popsters Air came to fame in '97 with seminal releases on Mo' Wax in the U.K. and Source in France. In addition to their two full-length releases, the French duo produced the soundtrack for Sofia Coppola's disturbing teenage movie, The Virgin Suicides.

Elefant
"Now That I Miss Her" by Elefant
Elefant turns the foibles of love into potent pop songs as well as anyone, shaping its lyrical themes with a dark, polished musical style that often recalls lovelorn early '80s England.

Chik Chik Chik
"There's No Fucking Rules, Dude" by Chik Chik Chik
Hey, how long have you been wanting to hear a little post-punk you can really get down to? Well now you can shake your ass to the funkiest white boys around -- but good luck trying to pronounce their name.

Pretty Girls Make Graves
"All Medicated Geniuses" by Pretty Girls Make Graves
Seattle's Pretty Girls Make Graves features former members of the Murder City Devils, Kill Sadie, and The Death Wish Kids. With their refreshing energy and satisfying mixture of hardcore and post-punk, they're one of the best new bands in recent memory.

"Long Life Love" by Stereolab
For over a decade, this loose-knit French-English ensemble's colorful, playful, spacey music has set the bar for experimental pop. One of the '90s' most influential and adored groups.

Sahara Hotnights
"Alright Alright (Here's my Fist Where's the Fight?)" by Sahara Hotnights
The Sahara Hotnights join the rock and roll explosion from Sweden. This garage outfit produces the best girl-punk anthems since the Runaways.
