Canada has been a hotbed for creative electronic music production for some time. Vancouver-based Upstairs Recordings will please those of the downtempo persuasion through acts such as E.D. Swankz, The Verbrilli Sound (Don Verbrilli), Telefuzz, and Gavin Froome (of Nordic Trax fame).

E.D. Swankz (where did he get that name?) is a rising downtempo producer whose work has been compared to Thievery Corporation, Fila Brazillia, and Air. Sample his sultry grooves and decide for yourself.

In his Telefuzz guise, Don Verbrilli (The Verbrilli Sound) creates subtle electronic soundscapes that fall somewhere between Plaid and Stasis. Intelligent but not geeky, this should have dance music connoisseurs from Sheffield to San Francisco rubbing their respective chins.
