Twitch Recordings

SF-based Twitch Recordings was launched in 1991 as a remix service/record label by Sacramento transplant Jim Hopkins. Twitch was one of the first underground record labels in San Francisco. Hopkins was also instrumental in the start up of Zoe Magik -the label to put Young American Primitives and Single Cell Orchestra on the map.

Twitch is probably most well-known for its underground stomper, "Loose Caboose" which was a collaborative project between DJ Dan and Jim Hopkins known as The Electroliners. In 1995, this breakbeat anthem took many a dance floor by storm, especially in the underground rave scene. Hopkins has also done remixes for XL Recordings/Beggars Group, Nervous Records, and Smile Communications.

The most recent Twitch release, "Breakin' It Down," is the first release after a 3-year hiatus. Hopkins is back with his funky breaks sound. He offers up a hard house mix with rolling basslines, funky guitar and some slick dj tricks. Side B is the breakbeat mix in traditional Twitch style with massive sub bass, dark female vocals, scratchin' and big beat overtones.
