Tree Records
Run by the infamous Ken Shipley, Tree Records is one of Chicago's finest indie labels. Exemplifing what many upstart independents hope to become, Tree is self-contained and well respected throughout the world. The label releases emotionally geared records, focusing especially on talented singer-songwriters. Tree is one of the hardest working little indies around.
Ethel Meserve
Echoing their own brand of powerful yet soothing melodic indie rock, Ethel Meserve has been compared to such bands as June of 44 Kerosene 454. With their arrangements of guitars, cellos, clarinet, and vocals lost in the mix of tender harmonies, these guys provide plenty of inspirational moments.

Franklin
Stopgap rhythms and symphonic guitar power rein in the ecstasy that surrounds your head when you get the loaded gun of Franklin pressed to your temple. Samples and tricky instrumental runs combine with ambient aural descriptions of a modern tempest to bring you to a sustained audio climax. A must.

Gauge
This overlooked but seminal Midwestern band's atmospheric and introspective punk rock was instrumental in the burgeoning Midwest rock scene of the early '90s.

Jen Wood
Plush rhythms accompany the troubled and inspired vocals from this Seattle artist. Wood's lyrics and vocals hover over her delicately strummed melodies to create a delicious audio treat.
