Primal Records

Founded in '93 by the loveable Barrie Eves -- who is also one-quarter of major label-signed Mephisto Odyssey -- Berkeley-based Primal Records has established itself as one of the premier West Coast underground dance music record emporiums. Behind the counter deck stewards Solar Langevin and Hector Moralez ensure that the shelves are always stocked with the best underground beats from around the world. The shop also buys direct from prime West Coast labels such as Panhandle, Siesta, Red Melon, Dufflebag, and Seasons. More recently the shop has spawned the cunningly named Primal Records label that has acted as a springboard for acts including T. Collective (aka Terry Francis and Tony Hewitt), Lumpheads, and Envelope (aka Ted E. Graham). It is essential that you listen to this music.

Bass Age
If you like your house deep and dubby while maintaining a fun disco edge, Bass Age is the one for you. Trust one of the Bay Area's best labels, Primal, to pick 'em up.

Envelope
The mysterious Envelope makes its debut on the highly prolific Primal Records label. This is deep, well-produced tech-house a la Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, and Azad Rizvi.

The Lumpheads
South London's Lumpheads are reknown for their bass-heavy, floor-shaking house productions. They have been known to collaborate with the likes of Crispin J. Glover and Tony Hewitt on occasion.

T. Collective
The two T's -- Terry Francis and Tony Hewitt -- comfortably combine the best parts of the South London and San Francisco house sounds. This is the type of deep late night tech-house that you would hear Francis and Hewitt play at Wiggle and The Gathering.
