Kimchee Records

Kimchee Records is a vibrant Boston label founded in 1996 by a pair of rabid music enthusiasts eager to share their passion with the rest of the world. They are Andy Hong and Bob Dubrow, engineer and host of WMBR Cambridge's live local music show, Pipeline!. Appropriately enough, Kimchee's first release was Pipeline! Live Boston Rock, a 40-song compilation chronicling the history of the show. Since then, Kimchee has continued the Pipeline! vision of providing exposure to Boston's finest young bands.

27
Featuring three longtime veterans of the Boston underground music scene, 27 creates brooding, stark soundscapes through a combination of spare guitar figures, cool vocals, and subtle electronic experimentation.

'Angel's Share' Seven-Inch Picture Disc - 2001

Anastasia Screamed
A little-known but much-loved Boston cult band from the late '80s and early '90s, with a big rough, two-guitar rock sound that anticipated the grunge explosion.

Pipeline! Live Boston Rock on WMBR - 1996

Seana Carmody
Seana Carmody is the cofounder and frontwoman of the Swirlies, the much-loved experimental pop unit from Boston. Solo, she crafts sparse, cool compositions with a slightly spooky feel.

In My Living Room

The Dambuilders
Boston's The Dambuilders were an integral part of the independent radio format throughout the '90s, thanks to their archetypal avant-pop sound.

Pipeline! Live Boston Rock on WMBR - 1996

Richard Davies
One of the godfathers of Australia's thriving quirky pop movement. First with The Moles, then with the Cardinal, and now solo, Davies has excelled at making accessibly deranged music.

In My Living Room

Geoff Farina
Intelligent, reflective boy-and-his-guitar type stuff from the leader of Karate and the Secret Stars.

In My Living Room
Blobscape - 2002

Helium
One of indie rock's most important and unusual bands of the '90s. Mary Timony and co's surreal, disjointed style of fairytale pop was unlike anything before or since (with the possible exception of Timony solo). Damaged, fantastical, and deeply compelling.

Pipeline! Live Boston Rock on WMBR - 1996

Helms
A Boston trio which explores stark, hypnotic minimalism countered periodically by heavy, smoldering instrumental noise. Formerly known as The Television Set.

The Swimmer

The Pee Wee Fist
This diminutively titled Boston sextet shows off a shopping cart full of influences, skills, and styles with relentlessly inventive pop that simply refuses to do what you expect it to, but insists on entertaining no matter what it does.

Flying - 2001

Rosa Chance Well
Introspective, folky pop act from Boston. Rosa Chance Well appeals with their simplicity, taste, and intimacy. Featuring members of numerous other New England heavyweights, including The Wicked Farleys, Come, Codeine, and Karate.

Rosa Chance Well - 2001

Heidi Saperstein
An engaging Boston-based solo artist whose work ranges in tone from pensive folk ditties to angst-ridden guitar-rock.

The Devil I Once Knew - 2001

Victory At Sea
Former members of Sugar Bitch, Spore, and The Swirlies are on a quest for truth and understanding. Dark and dissonant guitar rock that finds unexpected ways to be beautiful.

The Dark Is Just the Night
Carousel - 2001
The Good Night - 2002
