In the 60s, dub began as remixed reggae b-sides that were designed for live toasting in the dancehalls of Kingston. The use of effects was influenced by the scattered radio signals coming from the American South, which also sparked the ska rhythms that led to reggae. From the 70s onward, dub exploded into its own genre through the assistance of luminaries like Sly and Robbie, Mad Professor, and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
