I'm definitely no sports writer... but i have to celebrate a great moment in Chicago sports history. There's nothing like taking a friend or family member from out of town to Wrigley Field, skipping work, having a couple of beers and taking in one of the world's greatest man made environments. Of course, I can't afford a ticket to Wrigley for the playoffs, but the city is energized with people saying 'hey, how about those Cubs' instead of coldly passing by. Last night i met six people i'll never speak to again. We talked about ERA's and the like, giving strangers common ground and a conversation piece. We high-fived, yelled, and then ultimately sulked as a damned Marlin rounded third base. Baseball gives people a focus, a love, a reason to cheer, an atmosphere and activity besides the new King from Queens or whatever... just like that Dalek show or that new Arab Strap album that makes the traffic on the drive home bearable...
