As an editor of a music site you have a lot of new music constantly thrown at you. There's been so many tracks that I've uploaded to the site in my one year of being involved with Epitonic that sometimes I forget what tracks I've even listened to. However that is definitely not the case with these songs. Here are just a few of the tracks that I obsessed over during 2012:

Danny Brown - “Grown Up”: This was, hands down, my most played song of 2012. As if I didn’t already love Danny Brown, “Grown Up” completely changed my how I viewed him as a MC. Add on a insanely good beat and you have one hell of a track.

AlunaGeorge - “Your Drums, Your Love”: AlunaGeorge were one of my favorite finds of the year. Everyone knows I’m a sucker for the South London dub scene, but when you add R&B vocals like this its a complete game changer. I’m just going to call it right now: their 2013 debut album is going to be all over my end of the year music lists next year.

Frank Ocean - “Super Rich Kids”: Must not start gushing about this album and this song... I may never stop.

BRKF$T CLUB - “The Fellowship”: After following Legit’s career for the last year, I was especially thrilled when I found this gem. With a such a killer crew all you need is a killer music video and they did just that. Yet another one of my most played summer anthems.

Kids These Days - “Don’t Harsh My Mellow”: You just can’t live in Chicago and not include Kids These Days in your top lists. 2012 was colossal for these local youngsters and I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot more from them in the coming years.

Angel Haze - “Werkin’ Girls”:  I can’t get enough of talented young females in the rap game. With a flow like this Angel Haze has managed to be one hard as nails chick while holding onto every ounce of her femininity. And have you listened to that speed. Hot damn.

Kendrick Lamar - “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe”: If you don’t play this track whilst heading into your 9-5 job every morning, then you’re doing it all wrong. Actually if you don’t play this track while doing anything at any given time, you’re probably doing it all wrong.

Jai Paul - “Jasmine”: Ten or fifteen years from now when I think back to the summer of 2012, I will think of this track. There was not a single day that Jai Paul wasn’t blaring from my speakers.

Chance the Rapper - “Brian Cells”: Next to Channel Orange, #10Day was my second most played album of the year and for good reason. Just listen to that hook and tell me it doesn’t get stuck in your head for the next week.

Action Bronson - “Blackbird”: As a Chicago food nerd I got to show some love to Action Bronson for giving a shout out to one of my favorite restaurants in the city. This track from him and Chicago-based producer Thelonious Martin was one of my favorite tracks to come out of Ruby Hornet’s Closed Sessions.
