"Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road." - Jack Kerouac
Now, I'm not usually one to toss out a Kerouac quote all loosey-goosey, but I waved goodbye to New Hampshire for the last time on Saturday. The small, charming green-and-white land of living free and never dying that I once called home is now officially my former residence. Chicago has claimed my heart for now. I'm in a period of melancholy goodbyes and hopeful fortunes for the future: leaving the NH music scene behind (my own band included) but excited to see what comes out of it next; final encounters with friends, but just until their inevitable treks to the great Midwest; abandoning the comfort and piece of mind that exists only at home, where mom cooks your meals and you've got all the time in the world. Well I've had plenty of time, I'm ready to start thrusting my life together, one day, one experience, one new skill at a time. I'm ready to explore and mine Chicago for everything it has to offer. Until that gets old, this is my home. The past is bittersweet but the future is bright and burning, and I am not going to let the flames die down without running through them first.
The first half of this playlist is for nostalgic reminiscing, and the latter half is for hopeful fortunes.
[The reminiscing section features a few tracks by bands from The Richter Collective, an incredible Irish label that announced yesterday that it will be closing its doors at the end of 2012. I'm guessing we'll see a more thorough Richter tribute from Parker soon.]
