Mole Listening Pearls

Laszlo Fogarasi Jr. grew up a few hundred kilometers outside Budapest in a small town called Mernye. As a youngster, Fogarasi was inspired by World music pioneers Osibisa, reigning French hip hop king MC Solaar, and the Hungarian and Polish jazz greats such as Studio 11, Rudolf Tomsits, Gyorgy Vukan, Syrius, and Zbigniew Namislowski. With such eclectic tastes, it's hardly surprising that Fogarasi's own production -- as Yonderboi -- defies categorization, save for the fact that it is primarily electronic in nature and downbeat in tempo.

He recorded his '00 Mole Listening Pearls debut album Shallow and Profound in an empty room of an office building while he was looking for a place to stay in Budapest. Essentially electronic, the album features an array of traditional instruments, including vibraphone, accordion, and an original (and presumably very rare) Vermona organ from the former East Germany. "Pabadam," as featured on Shallow and Profound, also features on the superb Mole Listening Pearls double CD compilation, Room Service Volume One, alongside tracks by G-Pal, Lemongrass, Jaffa, and Bonobo.
