Vampyros Lesbos
Motel Records
Do not attempt to make any sense, meaning,
or reason of this until the day-glo colors fade
and the intoxicating haze clears from your
headspace, brother. About this music, this
much is known: it was composed and recorded
in 1969 by German composers Manfred
Hubler and Siegfried Schwab
(under the moniker Vampires Sound
Incorporation) for a trio of films by director
Jesus Franco, all starring the beautiful
and fatal Euro-vamp Soledad Miranda.
The most famous of these films lends its title to
the compilation, Vampyros Lesbos.
Incorporating just about every motif that made
the '60s music what it was (funky backbeats,
blaring horns riffs, wailing Farfisa and Hammond
organs, sitars, breathy Astrud
Gilberto-like vocal harmonies, heavy
electric guitar, et cetera), the sheer sexadelic
grooviness of these tunes is guaranteed to
blow your mind. Like, just relax and unbutton
your collar, baby, and prepare to freak out!
