While Triangle's one-word, geometric name betrays their laptop-happy allegiance to IDM wizards like Plaid and Oval, it doesn't begin to tell the whole story. That's because Triangle frees their music from the cool sterility that afflicts so much IDM with exuberantly quirky pop sensibilities which align their sound to playful synth-pop revivalists like Figurine and Barcelona. Despite their plentiful squirting synths, paper-thin robot beats, and wacky glitch-work, Triangle's songs are surprisingly warm, organic, and human, striking a chord with their endearing goofiness and surprising danceability.

The St. Paul duo is yet another intriguing product of the increasingly prominent Minnesota cheeky electro-pop scene, which also includes the likes of Sean Tillman (Sean Na Na, Har Mar Superstar) and Howard Hamilton III (The Busy Signals), both past Triangle collaborators. After getting started in 1998, Triangle self-released a couple of EPs on their Smoke & Mirrors label, before hunkering down in front of their G4 in early 2000 to record their enigmatically titled debut LP, *.
