The Mirror Boys
Grayhound Records

The Mirror Boys -- the alter ego of DJ Thomas -- is the latest addition to Grayhound's all-star roster. Well-known for his inspired vision of future-funk and his eclectic DJ sets with the Wicked Sound System, he has recorded for labels such as Peace Feast, Pussyfoot, and Three Sixty. He skates, boards, tinkers with analog gear, cultivates wrongness wherever he goes, and has no respect whatsoever for musical boundaries.

"4 A.M." features Thomas on the marimbas and includes some original horn work to boot. The "6 A.M." bonus comes in the form of a gritty downtempo ska-rocker in the unnerving style of Thomas's Mammal moniker. "Black Diamond," a track he produced for Three Sixty, is a tough, distorted guitar-led midtempo moon-stomper with far-out male vocals that reek of '80s cult pop. Whether he's behind the decks or behind the production desk, this rising San Francisco talent forces you to expect the unexpected.
