The Bros. vs. Shah vs. Automator
Motel Records
Once again, Motel Records re-introduces far
out, incredibly groovy sounds from far off lands
and bygone eras. Bombay The Hard Way: Guns, Cars, and Sitars will undoubtedly
trigger a hypnotic regression into your past life
as gun-toting, kung-fu kicking,
polyester-sporting opium gangster on the
streets of urban India in the '70s. The S.F. Bay
Area's own Automator excavates,
re-masters, and compiles selected compositions
of music directors Kalyani and Anandji V. Shah, who scored dozens of 'Bollywood'
films fusing traditional Indian elements and
contemporary Western pop with a musical
vision similar to that of Ananda Shankar. These
tracks also feature snippets of dialogue from
the films, as well a as little help from friends
Nana Simopoulos on the sitar and Josh Davis
(aka DJ Shadow) on the drum tracks.
