The Simple Ones

Spurred on by Memphis brethren The Grifters the Simple Ones ruled the loud club and recording studio scene in Memphis from early 1991 until the latter part of the decade. Owing as much inspiration to the The Pixies, the Simple Ones served up hooks that would kill Mike Tyson (and that bad-haired promoter of his). Jared McStay wrote the lyrics and strummed the melodies, Jim McDermott laid down the bass lines, and Mark provided the backbeat (later replaced by Grifter recording fanatic Roy Berry). After two full releases and a plethora of singles, the Simple Ones have been regrouping in various pop-based bands, performances, and recording projects in Memphis.
