Sweep the Leg Johnny is perhaps Chicago's most important young band. They personify Chicago with originality and creativity. They also bring back the melodies and actual rock that the bigger Chicago bands have shied away from in this post-rock era.
But don't let this make you think for a second that STLJ doesn't come up with some of the most bizarre time-signatures and song structures on the planet. They are notorious for taking their audiences on fifteen-minute journeys that leave most normal people, uh, well. not so normal.
Watch for these guys to come to your town soon as tour tirelessly. And in the meantime, listen to the vicious guitar riffs and mindbending saxophone lines that would make Sun Ra want to sober up.
