Sunkissed
Nordic Trax
Canadian-born Peter Grove started creating music in his early teens. He played guitar for several bands (including Liberation Symphony) before trading his "traditional" instruments for the electronic variety. Armed with a plethora of synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines, and a penchant for Aphex Twin, Richie Hawtin, and Moby, he dove headfirst into the rave scene. Following a short stint with Max Rebo (later Vegasphere), Grove began developing his solo career as Sunkissed.
His wraithlike fusion of surreal chords and dark beats caught the attention Richie Hawtin (Plastikman), who duly signed a release for Definitive, the house-centric sub-label of Plus 8. Simultaneously, Grove set up his own label, Woodwork Recordings, to further expand his catalog. With recent releases from Crave and Ghoti, Woodwork has garnered a reputation as one of Canada's finest techno imprints. "Direction" is taken from the Nordic Trax mix CD/double vinyl compilation Necessary Pieces 2. Try not to be taken under by the eerie chords, gnawing bass, and acid dripping synths. Go on, I dare ya!
