Sub Debs
K Records
The Sub Debs are an infectious riot of three-chord D.I.Y. energy. They're relentlessly catchy. Really, they have no mercy. Drawing on a tradition of aggressive female-fronted rock that includes the Runaways, and more recently Sleater-Kinney, the Sub Debs make music that stands up and fights. Their debut album She's So Control draws strength both from its minimal instrumentation and its slightly dirty garage production. The featured song, "Don't Mess with Us," is an assertive, tough-as-nails anthem that appropriates Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" guitar and drum rhythms, neatly summing up the Sub Debs' attitude and aesthetic.
