LaKitt the Conqueror holds court on black history, unity, and spiritual consciousness, taking the spotlight vacated by MC Wave One. Joining the Conqueror are DJ Justin and Protozoa Rex, riding tracks from the mind of producer and Clockwise label don J. Stroke.
At a time when the rap music industry nationwide is obsessed with all things "Southern," and up-from-the-underground major-label crews like Outkast and the Goodie Mob claim that they have always been the essence of "real" hip hop, it is heartening to see Atlanta-based artists pushing the envelope and embracing less familiar sonic terrain. LaKitt's lyrics are concerned more with provoking thought and posing questions than braggin' and storytellin', and J. Stroke's unique timbres and exotic sounds and rhythms nod to the East, both Near and Far.
