Sixkiller
Fortune Records
Sixkiller (not to be confused with the Philly band Sonny Sixkiller) plays big guitar music the way it's meant to be played. Their song, "Shift," from Fortune Records' Fortune Cookies compilation, is full of big rock moments, with shades of both the power of arena rock and the strangled honesty of emo. Anton Reut and Eric Kluge build the sound with staccato full-speed-ahead guitar and bass, and singer-songwriter Jim Greer rounds things out on drums. Reut's sweet voice, by turns dreamy and strained, dances across the roof of this rock and roll skyscraper, with Kluge singing backup. One listen and you'll be hooked. There's not much you can do about it. Sorry.
