Si*Se
Luaka Bop
Drum and bass DJ turned vocalist Carol C formed Si*Se with production engineer and hip hop producer Cliff Cristofaro (DJ U.F.LOW) in the late '90s. Cristofaro sought Carol out after hearing a demo tape and the two immediately hit it off. Realizing they had the potential to form a cohesive and forward-thinking sound, the two enlisted the help of fellow New Yorkers Jeannie Oliver (viola) and Olivia Martinez (viola), Neil Ochoa (percussion), Morgan Phillips (bass), and Ryan Farley (drums) to form a true live-meets-electronic septet. Their music is influenced by the original sounds of Latin jazz, funk, and soul, and is tied together with modern elements of hip hop, drum and bass, and downtempo. The Spanish-language "Cuando" is taken from their eponymous debut release on Luaka Bop and is remixed in true deep house fashion by Philly's finest, King Britt (Sylk130).
