Simon Fisher Turner

Simon Fisher Turner's most striking characteristic is his aptitude for change. Having acted alongside Robert Mitchum, roadied for Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, and toured with Adam and the Ants, he hooked up with Matt Johnson to form The The. Following the band's separation, Fisher Turner applied his studio skills to the silver screen, working (not exclusively but predominantly) with the late English avant-garde film director, Derek Jarman. Fisher Turner scored the soundtracks to Jarman's The Last Of England, The Garden, Edward II, and the celebrated experimental movie Blue.

Fisher Turner continues to explore the realm of celluloid with the BBC (for the drama series Nature Boy) and Channel 4 (Gangster No. 1), while simultaneously developing his own studio work. Recently, he hooked up with Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner), with whom he produced the eight-track electronic masterpiece Travelcard. The album, signed to Beggars Banquet, resonates with introverted ambient soundscapes ("Hole Entry"), muscular trance-like rhythms ("Phote"), coarse industrial synths ("Twice Two"), and soul-sucking drum and bass ("Filter"). Much like Kraftwerk's "Autobahn," this album would make perfect listening on a long car journey or a mellow night in with your favorite headphones.
