Shantel
!K7 Records
A true artist constantly seeks new inspiration. Shantel is one such artist. Having wooed the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister, Howie B, and Rockers Hi-Fi with his '98 album Higher Than The Funk, Shantel (Stefan Hantel) promptly bolted from his hometown Frankfurt and relocated to Tel Aviv, Israel. There, in the Clemantin Secret Laboratories studio, he jammed with small string quartets, horn ensembles, and renowned Israeli singer Efrat Ben-Zur. These sessions form the basis for his '01 album Greatdelay, so named for his obsession (and some would say mastery) of the delay pedal.
An essentially downtempo project, Greatdelay shines with optimism and is rich in cultural musicianship. The album ranges in style from soft bossa rhythms ("Backwood") to funky house-tempo funk ("Crystal") to smooth lounge vibes ("Want"). Our featured track, "Inside," was released as a single in May '01, and is one of the 13 tracks on Greatdelay.
