Roni Size

From his humble beginnings as a student at the Basement Project program for Bristol's musical youth, Roni Size (real name Ryan Williams) would go on to rewrite dance music history with his organic, soulful drum and bass renditions. With roots in reggae and hip hop, and with nothing better do (seeing as he was expelled from school at age 16), Size delved headfirst into Bristol's late '80s free party scene, brushing shoulders with members of Massive Attack in the process. He co-produced his first release with DJ Krust as The Deceivers in the early '90s on Vinyl Experience (later V Recordings). The two formed Full Cycle in '93 and two years later the hard-step subsidiary, Dope Dragon.

With its uncompromising musical approach and dedication to the highest quality beats, Full Cycle quickly gained a reputation as an imprint to watch. In '96, Roni Size teamed up with fellow Full Cycle producers Die, Krust, and Suv and vocalists MC Dynamite and Onallee to form Reprazent. After signing to Talkin' Loud, the band released the Mercury Award-winning album New Forms in late '97. Since then, Size has toured the world with Reprazent and has been busy in the studio, releasing his debut solo album, Touching Down, in November '02 on his own Full Cycle imprint. Awash with fast-forward breaks, dive-bombing bass, and tight synth riffs, the album has propelled the Bristol beatsmith back into the drum and bass spotlight, a place he feels very much at home.
