Propeller
Makoto Recordings
At times, Ann Arbor's Propeller sounds a bit like the late, lamented Slint or early June of 44: sharp, minor key guitar lines move dexterously in circles, complemented by a warm, hypnotic rhythm section and restrained, somber vocals. But while the quartet goes mostly for stark, smoldering minimalist rock, from time to time it erupts, volcano-like, into a more emotional, visceral style of rock. Solid, complex, and intelligent.
Propeller doesn't get to play together too much, thanks to some geographical obstacles. Still they found time to record the five song Art of Clear Thinking EP in 2000. The dynamic, well-crafted release features "Adjusting Pizarro."
