Poison Arrows

Sound on Sound has released a collection of early Atombombpocketknife songs under the moniker of the Poison Arrows. These songs were recorded in 1996 and '97, when ABPK was a Tennessee project, a band that existed alongside guitarists Jason Morris and Justin Sinkovich?s other band, Thumbnail. The project provided the duo an opportunity to turn down the amps a bit and write some less ear-bleeding rock songs with friends Scott Westmoreland (bass) and Ben Martin (drums). There's a heavier pop influence in the Poison Arrows' songs, which find emotional focus in barroom discussions about broken hearts and self-direction.
Atombombpocketknife is still in its early years, as the band is just wrapping up its second album so the name Poison Arrows was used. Besides, these recordings are the product of an entirely different cast of characters (Sinkovich is the only constant) and a different mindset. The Poison Arrows album nicely defines a band that was already known as Atombombpocketknife, but hadn't yet found the aesthetic and the personnel that now distinguish the group.
