Petrol
Glitter Bullitts Music
After moving from Belfast to California, the four Irish lads in Petrol started this band with the obvious intention of paying tribute to all that is sweet and good in British rock and roll history. These boys know their heritage and they don't mind showing it, writing songs that incorporate elements of The Who, The Jam, The Buzzcocks, and maybe even a little Cheap Trick. With vocal stylings that range from late-Beatles harmonies to Johnny Rotten-esque sneering and howling, and driving guitars that sometimes recall Mick Ronson's Ziggy-era work for David Bowie (this band would do a great "Suffragette City"), Petrol crafts sweaty, bratty, glammy rock and roll songs that will make you move no matter what kind of music you're into. But while Petrol may wear its influences on its sleeve, this band is far from derivative. Petrol simply channel the cumulative energy of four decades of great rock and roll, creating a sound they've dubbed "maximum pop." Maximum it is -- unbuckle your seatbelt and turn the volume knob up to 11.
