Mr. C
Engine Recordings

Although most of you will recognize Mr. C as frontman and M.C. for techno-pop crossover act The Shamen, he has been an influential figure in the London underground scene for over a decade. From the acid house movement of the late '80s, during the early '90s heyday of The Crazy Club and Fantasy FM, and through the late '90s tech-house boom, Mr. C has been a key figure in club land. His prowess both behind the decks and on the mic attracted the attention of The Shamen in the early '90s. Their first big hit, "Move Any Mountain," hit the U.K. national charts at number four, and in '92 "Ebineezer Good" held the number one spot for four weeks.

Mr. C went on to found underground tech-house label Plink Plonk, famed for its future house and funky techno releases. In the mid '90s, along with partner Layo Paskin (one half of Layo & Bushwacka!), Mr. C founded The End, a subterranean club in the West End of London dedicated to pushing the sonic boundaries of underground dance. The club spawned End Recordings, which since showcased the work of artists such as Circulation, Robert Owens, and Charles Webster.

Subterrain 100% Unreleased celebrates the success of the club night of the same name which takes place every week at The End. The tracklisting reads like a who's who from the world of tech-house, with choice cuts supplied by Charles Webster, Tone Theory (aka Derrick Carter), Gene Farris, Steve O'Sullivan, Nathan Coles, Mr. Barth (aka Cari Lekebusch), Pure Science, and of course Mr. C himself. The compilation seamlessly mixes sixteen tracks, and what's more they are all exclusive to this release -- you won't find them on vinyl anywhere. This is the sound of the true London underground.
