Route 33
Stockholm (and Sweden in general) is a hotbed for techno and house production and has been ever since the Svek label came to the forefront. The city has spawned electronic gods such as Jesper Dahlback, Adam Beyer, and Cari Lekebusch (Mr. Barth), all of whom continue to push the boundaries of electronic music production. Stockholm's latest prodigy is Pawel Kobak. Of Polish descent, Kobak had a love affair with drum and bass before finding his feet in house music. Those with a really keen eye will recognize his name penned next to Sound 'n' Space releases on Fluid Records. Most will know Kobak's name from his textured, late night releases on i! Records and Wrong Steps. Kobak also releases as City Dreams with Frederik Stark for i! and Dan Curtin's growing Metamorphic. "Hold On," "Route Home," and the Manuel Perez remix of "Hold On" are taken from the fourth release on Kobak's own Route 45 label. The overall production -- layered chords, low slung basslines, and jazzy percussion -- is on a par with Jori Hulkkonen, Kevin Yost, and Richard Les Crees.
