Leave your preconceptions at the club door. Miguel Q is here to put Dallas, Texas on the drum and bass map. Son to a Chinese mother and a Bolivian father, Miquel Q is a classically trained pianist of some worth. He is also fairly skilled with a pair of drumsticks, having served his time with a number of Texan punk bands. Since developing a penchant for electronic music, Mr. Q began dabbling with equipment. As his studio grew, so did his love for that peculiarly English musical form, drum and bass. Taking a cue from more melodic drum and bass marauders such as
Fabio, Peshay, and Marcus Intalex, Miguel Q entered the production fray with a series of releases on his own label, Lostrack Recordings. With his keen ear for new talent, Boston's Al Fougy soon picked up a few tracks for his growing Phuturistic Bluez imprint. "Regret" evokes images of a Bladerunner-like skyline with its crystalline chords and Vangelis-inspired synths. "Porcelain" is a dreamy, aquatic stepper that would sound at home on 720, Nexus, or Good Looking.
