Miguel Graca

Those familiar with the deep house scene will have heard the name Miguel Graca dropped in conversations alongside the likes of Derrick Carter, Roy Davis Jr., and Russ Gabriel. Born in Portugal, now residing in Montreal, Graca has been a prominent fixture on the house circuit since his debut release as Ballyhoo on CIA Records in '87. Since then he has built up a rich catalog of releases on a wide range of labels including Front Records (with London DJ Robert Ouimet), Bassic Records, Hi-Bias, Toronto Underground, and more recently, Ferox, Tag, Earth Recordings, and Strictly Rhythm. Graca records under a number of pseudonyms, including Balance, Fellows, Effervescence, Red Light, M-X, Mode 2, and KM Formula. As a remixer he has worked with Masters at Work and Jestofunk.

The overwhelming success of Graca's first four releases for Bombay Records prompted the label to offer him an album deal. Shining Stars, from Miguel Graca presents Soulnotmind, features a number of Montreal musicians and vocalists, including Darnell Robinson (vocals on "Speak My Mind"), Sebastien Tremblay (all guitar parts), Orion Revolution Curiel (vocals on "Rollin'"), and Renee Proulx (vocals on "Don't Hold Back"). Graca successfully fuses these live elements with his own deep beats, textured chords, and soulful freeform keys. Shining Stars is living proof that house music has transcended the dance floor. Monkey Mass, Graca's sophomore album, delves into techno territory while retaining the soulful edge of his previous releases. Check out "The Wellbeing" for a taste of what's to come from this talented Montreal producer.
