Lumin
City of Tribes
Lumin makes an organic and live-feeling new electronica by hybridizing its samplers and synths with ethnic percussion, dulcimer, oud, and vibraphone. Deep trance rhythms and the modalities of the Middle East and Africa are cultivated in a darkly ambient electronic space. Skillful sonic gardeners, Lumin landscapes our listening. Whether in a chill-out room or a subdued living room, we close our eyes and let the vivid hues emerge.
Fans of recent Aphex Twin releases, as well as followers of the Asian Underground (Talvin Singh, The Outcaste Collective) should take note. When Sonja Drakulich (of Stellamara) guests on "Wild Orchid" and "Syrian Rue," two of the tracks on the full-length album, her spectacular voice arches over a collage of ethnic instrumentation which includes Persian violins and dulcimer.
