Ken Vandermark's Joe Harriott Project
Atavistic
Ken Vandermark was rightfully awarded the highest honor in North American fine arts -- The MacArthur Fellowship. Ken is constantly touring and crafting new projects to help fulfill his unparalleled understanding of the ultimate and whole jazz vision. This project was created after friend and colleague John Corbett introduced Ken to Joe Harriot's two albums. Ken identified not only with the importance of the ground broken in creating early European free jazz, but also realized Harriot's tunes were revolutionary. This project was performed by four fifths of Ken's main and permanent project, The Vandermark 5. The record was done with an elegant sense of style and originality, not drowning the works in reproduction. Instead the group has developed an incredible interpretation mixed with tribute.
