Square Room
With a recording engineer for a father, it's hardly surprising Jared Wheeler became a musician himself. From a bunker in Kansas City, Missouri, he and his production partner Pat Nice create profoundly San Francisco-tinged house for a growing roster of independent dance labels. Safe-in-Sound and Roam Recordings were the first labels to pick up the baton, later passing it to San Diego's Alluv and Bella Records. Natasha Lyonne, on New York's Square Room Records, features two tracks of finely tuned house. Olivier Desmet and Chuck Diesel provide the "Amenti Mix," named after Desmet's San Francisco-based label.
