John Howard

Ask any house music lover in San Francisco about John Howard and they will have something nice to say about him. Howard has played his way through the best part of the '90s and along the way has graced almost every set of decks in the city with his unique blend of deep tribal house. From the summer of love in '93, through the mid-'90s heyday of clubs like Stompy, Together, and Wicked, to the present domination of venues like Spundae, Release, and Staple, Mr. Howard has played 'em all.

The San Francisco Sessions Volume 2, is a set that you might hear Howard play on a typical Wednesday night at San Francisco DJ/producer hangout The Top. He starts the set on a deep, tribal tip with tracks from Martin Solveig and DJ D (Influence), then moves swiftly into the arena of smooth disco house with the help of Jori Hulkkonen (Lumi) and Bjorn Torske (Svek). His love of breakbeat shows through at the halfway mark with cuts from Dan Jones (Bush) and Shaboom. He ends on a high note with sultry sounds from Gabriel Rene and Groove Collective. The sunny house sounds of San Francisco shine through on this superb compilation mixed by The City's favorite DJ. For a sample of John Howard's production work check "Spacewalk" also released on Om Records. Unlike the tribal tracks he selects for his mix, "Spacewalk" is deep, sensuous downtempo that permeates with sunny San Francisco vibes.
