Jeff Sharel

Jeff Sharel is a leader in the blossoming nu-jazz-house scene proliferating in the clubs of Western Europe. On a nightly basis, in clubs like The Rex in Paris, L'Anfer in Dijon, and The Marquise in Lyon, crowds gather to experience the sound of house combined with live instrumentation. Jazzanova, Truby Trio, and Beanfield are leading the revolution in Germany, Phil Asher, 4 Hero, and Mustang in the U.K., and in France, Frederic Galliano and i-cube, along with Sharel.

Sharel discovered house music during his years at the exclusive Ecole de Beaux-Artes in Paris. Soon, his admiration for jazz luminaries such as Pharoh Sanders, McCoy Tyner, and Chico Freeman was coupled with an affinity for crossover house labels such as Talkin' Loud, Disorient, and Guidance. Recently Sharel has collaborated with the ubiquitous Frederic Galliano, releasing material on Frikiywa, Galliano's F Communications subsidiary. Since '95, Sharel has recorded material for Apricot Records and has garnered international attention for his remix of Tony Allen's afro-groove Ariya on Comet Records. "Conte D'Automne" is a lazy, hazy downtempo track with afro-rhythms and soft flowing panpipes: the perfect soundtrack to a mellow day in the sun. "Piano D'Hiver" and "Venuste" are culled from Sharel's self-titled full-length project for Statra Recordings.
