J-Boogie
Om Records
Whether he's playing his eclectic blend of hip hop, dub, soul, and jungle at one of San Francisco's many downtempo lounges or mixing it up on "Beatsauce," San Francisco's only underground hip hop mix show, J-Boogie is always representing. He has made a name for himself in the highly competitive Bay Area turntablist scene, mixing it up with the likes of Q-Bert, Mr. Dibbs, and DJ Signify. He is equally respected for his drum and bass selections, which he lays down alongside Mike Bee, Gabe Real, and DJ Sea. Now, to add to his list of achievements, Om Records has picked him up for his production work.
"Oceanic Lullaby" is, as it sounds, a melancholic journey into downtempo, spiced with lush female vocals and soothing synth washes. "La Sangre," created under the guise of J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science, has been licensed to the third in Om's hugely popular Om Lounge series, while the opulent and swanky "Rosada Flor" features on the fourth.
Meanwhile, "Gemini Dub," taken from the BSI Records compilation Docking Sequence, is roots-based dub a la Dub Syndicate and Alpha & Omega. J-Boogie's mellow urban grooves are up there with the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister, The Deadbeats, and Tosca. A star in the making.
