Indonesian Soundscapes

Armed only with a DAT recorder, Loren Nerell traveled to Bali and Java to document the temple ceremonial music called Lelambatan, his sights set on finishing up his Master's in Ethnomusicology. However, he was soon captivated by the everyday sounds from these Indonesian islands and made tons of field recordings during his stay. Indonesian Soundscapes is a beautiful and poignant documentation that features an early morning Muslim call to worship, the clamor of a Gamelan maker's showroom, the wind through bamboo forests, and one particularly nasty rain forest downpour. No additional production is included on these recordings, as Nerell has done a superlative job in presenting these sounds with all their intrinsic beauty intact. It doesn't get much better than this.
