Gregg Bendian's Interzone
Atavistic

From the same creative well that brought you the Interstellar Transmissions album, Gregg Bendian's Interzone presents an expansive album of engaging and intelligent improvisational jazz. An inventive and nearly fearless musician, Bendian sets his crisp and shimmering, fat and fuzzy vibes loose in a field of Steuart Liebig's thick, jiggly bass, Nels Cline's meandering guitar, and Alex Cline's assured, understated drums. This jazz is almost evil, gallumphing from one spot to another, spilling snippets of glockenspiel and shimmering drums in its wake. Even if you're not a fan of jazz, you have to appreciate the limitless freedom that informs these compositions. From the frantically measured "Pattern Master" to the expansively open "Dispora" to the eerily dark featured track "Interzonia 1, 'David Cronenberg'," the pieces shine with dynamic energy and grace.
