Gaffer is a great young punk band from Canada. Their vicious combination of complex rhythmic structures with intricate playing creates expressive and often angry music. Gaffer will be minimal one minute and then they will flood you with sound. They take brutal hardcore and metal-edged guitar and twist them into math rock before suddenly slowing into an emotional, quiet, and stark section. Of course they'll inevitably launch back into full-on rock before long. Gaffer is making something unique and multifaceted that parallels the music of Antiantenna Recordings label mates The Vermicious Knid and a couple of the Japanese hardcore groups on Dim Mak.
