Do you remember that time, long ago, when dance music was made for dancing? Fortunately, that euphoria is back in full-effect thanks to Aston Harvey and Matt Cantor -- aka Freestylers. With a style that is instantaneous and highly infectious, Freestylers combine back-in-the-day breaks with cheeky B-boy vocal samples and up-to-the-minute production techniques. Having made their name with top selling releases on the Freskanova label, Freestylers went on to capture the prize for best band at the '98 Muzik Magazine Awards. With this increased media hype, the remixing offers began to flood in.

In the featured tracks, San Francisco house guru Robbie Hardkiss, Dub Pistols front man (and prime hedonist to boot) Barry Ashworth, and U.K. drum and bass don Grooverider each take a stab at "B-Boy Stance." The "Dub Pistols Club Dub" by Ashworth wins first prize with its simple effective breaks, well-timed samples, and low-slung bass hook. Prototype label head Grooverider rips it up with a bass-heavy two stepper that has a heavy dose of ragga attitude. Also we have a thumping club-house remix of "Here We Go" by Chi-town's master producer Bad Boy Bill. All in all, Freestylers bring much needed vitality to a dance music world that is beleaguered with complexity, introspection, and pompous poetry slams.
