Ex Self Conception is hybrid electronica -- the sound of scythes swung and beaten against the walls of an enormous abandoned warehouse -- the whole scene drenched in washed-out feedback that seems endless. Underneath this din, a low bellowing is audible, as if a foghorn were being projected through miles of ocean or a recording of a pack of wolves was slowed down to a menacing crawl. What is created is a disturbing atmosphere of seeming calamity resting beneath hyperkinetic dance or drum and bass beats. The tension resides in the contrast between the accentuated treble of the drums, cymbals, and feedback electrics and the suggested horror of the rumbling beneath. This is a luminous massacre shrieking forth -- a danse macabre.
