Since beginning his musical career in 1982, Brad Laner has remained on the fringes of independent music. His work with Debt of Nature, Steaming Coils, Savage Republic, and most notably Medicine has always pushed the boundaries, incorporating elements of improvisation and noise into indie rock and punk projects. Electric Company is no exception, only with this project, Laner takes electronic music to task, breaking it down for all the world to see.
Exitos is Electric Company's fifth outing -- Laner's first for Kid606's Tigerbeat6 label. The album clearly reflects Laner's musical history, suggesting both the beautiful noise of Medicine and the scattered psychedelia of Steaming Coils. The resulting sound lies somewhere between the digital manipulations of Oval and the shape-shifting compositions of Matmos.
"Something Akin to Living" comes from "62-56", an EP released in July of 2001. This release is yet another step forward for Electric Company's. Spanning numerous sounds and genres during its 45 minutes, the EP still provides a cohesive listen overall. Tigerbeat6 fans will be delighted by a special 15-minute track featuring an improvised collaboration between Electric Company, Kid606, Lesser, and Blectum from Blechdom.
