EDO. G
Ground Control/Nu Gruv Alliance

EDO. G may not be as well known as MCs hailing from Brooklyn or the Boogie Down, but this Roxbury, Massachusetts-born vet comes correct with The Truth Hurts. Forgoing the majors, dropping his album on the Nu Gruv Alliance imprint Ground Control, EDO. G, like the older -- and maybe wiser -- heads, has found creative freedom on independent labels. Following up on two releases with Tha Bulldogs in '91 and '94, EDO. G proves his solo prowess with well-crafted rhymes laced over basement beats. "On Dogz" lets you know that this rap game is his livelihood and since he's been in it for a minute, he's about to school us. With help from underground favorite DJ Premier (Gangstarr), EDO. G blesses us with "Sayin' Somethin'," a catchy yet gritty track that definitely delivers lyrically. Reinventing himself for the new millennium, EDO. G makes a solid comeback. Let's hope he doesn't stay silent for quite so long again.
