Dan Balis
Brique Rouge

Dan Balis is a New Yorker on a mission to provide the world with fresh and original house music. His '00 debut, Franks (inspired by his favorite Brooklyn watering hole, Frank's Lounge), was picked up by Paris's fine underground house label Brique Rouge and released with remixes by Plastic City and Yann Fontaine. For Brique Rouge, the forward-thinking house label founded by F Communications star Llorca and deep house compatriot David Duriez, Dan Balis proved to be a brilliant signing. A year later, Balis teamed up with Eugene Cho for "Pai Pai," featured on the Brique Rouge compilation Do It As Brique Rouge. The duo also produced the first release on Stay True, a label run by Duriez and Robsoul Recordings boss Phil Weeks. "Franks Pt. 2" is house a la Morgan Geist and Dan Curtin -- original, funky, and kinda quirky, while maintaining a strong floor appeal. It's the sort of music that would fit snugly into one of Derrick Carter's late night/early morning sets.
