C.I.A.
Sugarshack Records
C.I.A. is a project of Sugarshack's Sugar Ray and cohorts Kay Vee, PDS, and Mr. Bigstuff. The moniker actually stands for Criminalz In Aktion, and the act comes out of east Vancouver's Collingwood District with a style they describe as "Crime Rhyme." This laid-back but menacing style, delivered over heavy lowrider beats, has earned C.I.A. a cult following among West Coast rap fans.
The track "Hydroponic Funk" comes from MAD LOVE ("Making A Difference Living On Vancouver's East Side"), a joint production between Vancouver-based hip hop labels Sugarshack and Integrity Records to benefit the Sheway Project, a Vancouver shelter for pregnant women with drug dependencies. Besides C.I.A., the compilation features such top-notch Vancouver hip hop artists as Checkmate, Swollen Members, Social Deviantz, The Stuntman, Mr. Big Stuff, 2-Tone, Shines 'n' F-roc, and 2Ra.
