BT (Brian Transeau) is one of the biggest names in house music over the last half decade. First a sensation in U.K. dance clubs, BT reached audiences everywhere with his huge remix of Tori Amos's "Blue Skies" in 1996. Tremendously influential as a creator of epic, soulful house, BT has evolved with every release.
The excellent DJ Tiesto remix of BT's club bomb "Dreaming" is taken from the third in the Plastic compilation series. Both BT and DJ Tiesto have built enormous names for themselves in the rapidly growing trance domain with their highly infectious outputs and second-to-none production values. Such values are very much apparent on this up-tempo remix which combines funky breaks with slamming four-to-the-floor bass, angelic female vocals, and building gated chords. BT has hit the jackpot here with this release that will be a regular feature in the boxes of the more prominent players for some time.
BT has also worked with D.C.'s Deep Dish and Yoshitoshi imprints (creating the monstrous electro gem "The Ride" with cohort Sasha), and more recently has collaborated with U.K. producer Adam Freeland on the nu-school breakbeat gem "Hip Hop Phenomena." The song came out as a one-sided 12-inch on Freeland's Marine Parade label and also appears on the import version of BT's new album Movement In Still Life.
BT's current collaborations are interesting and important to note as well.
"Mad Skillz Mic Chekka" feaures additional production by Adam Freeland and Kevin Beber (aka Tsunami One). It's full of hard-hitting, techno sounding nu-school breaks and fine vocal elements courtesy of Hutchi, Planet Asia, and Rasco. "Movement In Still Life" features cuts and scratches from Peanut Butter Wolf, while "Running Down The Way Up" was produced in conjunction with one of the finest U.K. electronic bands, Hybrid. The ultra talented DJ Rap was involved in "Never Gonna Come Back Down." Obviously BT enjoys collaboration and the creativity it unleashes.
