Too Pure
Bows is New York-based producer/musician/singer/novelist/spoken word artist Luke Sutherland. Sutherland's debut Bows album, Blush, suggests a lush but lonesome neo-noir urban landscape seething with criminal underworld activity. He starts with a drum and bass template for tension, then overlays brass and string samples for atmosphere. Wandering over this dense musical palette are the sexually charged vocals of Sutherland and Danish chanteuse Signe Høirup Wille-Jørgensen, which provide sensuous, enigmatic beauty. Finally the whole thing is looped and bled and blurred, creating a spiraling soundscape that will make you feel like you're in the middle of a late twenty-first century crime movie.
