Biffy Clyro
Beggars Banquet

Biffy Clyro's biography asserts that they are neither a "nu-metal band," nor a "grunge band," but that they can "rock as hard as anyone you could care to mention." This is true, they do rock rather noisily, and they are not grunge or nu-metal, but the very mention of those sub-genres suggests the degree to which the Biffy Clyro boys are in fact influenced by that stuff. The trio of Simon Neil and twins Ben and James Johnston formed in rural Scotland in the mid-'90s when all three members were teenagers who worshipped the rock deity known as Nirvana. Later they moved to Glasgow and their range of influences broadened to include melodic emo/hardcore like Sunny Day Real Estate and Mineral. Their first limited edition EP, thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow, on the Electric Honey label, caught the attention of Beggars Banquet, who signed the trio in 2000. After a couple of singles, Biffy Clyro put out their debut, Blackened Sky in early 2002.
